ABUJA, Nigeria – The President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has announced the appointment of Chief Barrister Sylvester Okonkwo as his Chief of Staff. In addition, Saviour Enyiekere has been appointed as Deputy Chief of Staff.
The appointments were confirmed in a statement released by the Media Office of the Senate President on Monday, June 26, 2023.
Chief Barrister Sylvester Okonkwo, who hails from Ojoto in Idemili South LGA of Anambra State in the South East region of Nigeria, is a corporate lawyer and experienced politician with a career spanning over two decades.
He attended Dennis Memorial Grammar School in Onitsha and is an alumnus of the University of Nigeria, Enugu campus, where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Law (LL.B. Hons. B.L).
In 2019, Okonkwo was an aspirant for a senatorial seat on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC.
Before his appointment, he served as the CEO of Chinto Technologies Limited, an ICT and telecommunications company.
He is married to Chief (Barr) Mrs. Chidiebele Okonkwo LL.B, (Hons.) B.L, and they have children.
Saviour Enyiekere, the newly appointed Deputy Chief of Staff, is from Ika Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.
He is an alumnus of the University of Calabar and served as the Deputy Director-General of the Godswill Akpabio Senatorial Campaign Organization.
Enyiekere has held various positions including two terms as Executive Chairman of Ika LGA, Senior Special Assistant to the Akwa Ibom State Government on Boundaries and Conflict Resolutions, Board Member of the Akwa Ibom State Road Maintenance Agency, and was a former student leader and Senatorial Aspirant for Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District.
He is a member of the Nigerian Environmental Society, a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Economists of Nigeria, and a Professional Fellow of the Emergency Crisis, Risk and Safety Management Institute of Nigeria.
He is also married and has children.
The appointments of Chief Barrister Sylvester Okonkwo and Saviour Enyiekere are expected to bring extensive experience and insights to the office of the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, in supporting legislative leadership and governance.
