Abiola Ajimobi, the former governor of Oyo State, died from multiple organs failure following complications from coronavirus, COVID-19, infection.
Akin Abayomi, the commissioner for health in Lagos State, confirmed this via his verified Twitter handle on Friday, June 26, 2020.
He revealed that Senator Ajimobi died on Thursday, June 25, 2020, at a private facility in Lagos approved by the state government to offer COVID-19 treatment.
Professor Abayomi condoled with the family of the late former governor and the people of Oyo State.
Ajimobi, who died aged 70, was a two-term governor of Oyo State – the first person to occupy the seat twice and in succession.
It was rumoured last week that he had passed on, but his special adviser on communication and strategy, Bolaji Tunji, dismissed the reports in a statement obtained by Channels Television.
The news of the former governor’s death on Thursday was confirmed by aides and some family members, as well as elder statesmen and political bigwigs in the country.
