The wife of Nigeria’s president, General Muhammadu Buhari and first lady of the country, Aisha Buhari has been ‘outed’ by Ekiti Governor, Ayo Fayose and she’s not taking it kindly.
Aisha Buhari was named in the infamous Halliburton bribery case according to United States government documents.
Mr. Fayose broadcast this fact on Monday, June 20, 2016, soon after announcing that Nigeria’s anti-graft agency, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, had ordered a freeze on his personal bank account.
Her husband, President Buhari had issued an insult-filled press statement on Tuesday, June 21, 2016 in response to Fayose’s allegation threatening legal action and demanding that Fayose provide proof that the Aisha Buhari mentioned in the corruption scandal which took down US congressman, William Jefferson was indeed his wife.
But, not satisfied with the statement from the presidency defending her honour, Aisha Buhari took to micro-blogging website, Twitter, to lash out at Fayose calling him a mad dog.
In two tweets on her verified Twitter handle, Mrs. Buhari threatened to deal with the Ekiti governor and also made reference to her husband’s old age and her “youth”.
“Enough is enough Fayose. A mad dog that isn’t chained. I refuse to keep quiet,” she tweeted.
Not done, thirty minutes later, the first lady put out a more loaded tweet.
“Enough is enough, Fayose is an unchained mad dog,” she shouted. “If Buhari is 73 years old, I Aisha am 45 years old, I have more than enough energy to face you.”
The two tweets quickly went viral as the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) online supporters went into a frenzy. “Sai Mama!”, one of them responded.
Well, following a backlash from Nigerians on the unprofessional and crude nature of the country’s first lady’s response to this scandal, Aisha Buhari deleted both tweets.
Meanwhile, online supporters of the main opposition party, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) have been calling for Mrs. Buhari to put an end to the scandal trailing her by visiting the United States and coming back.
The Ekiti state governor on Monday, June 20, 2016 distributed a link to the US Department of Justice’s website where court documents mentioning Aisha Buhari as one who aided the transfer of bribers to Jefferson, an American lawmaker who was convicted of corruption in 2009 and is currently serving his sentence in a US prison.
