Annette Larkin’s has eaten a 100 percent raw, vegan diet for decades, and she is reaping the benefits. She refers to the diet as her own fountain of youth. She grows many of her own fruits and vegetables in her backyard and also collects rainwater. A raw vegan diet is free from all animal products, so Annette eats a lot of fruits, vegetables, and nuts.
While Annette has followed this diet for decades, her husband has not followed suit, but says that he now wishes that he had. Annette has managed to maintain such a youthful appearance that some even wonder if Mr. Larkin is her husband or if he is actually her father or even grandfather. Mr. Larkin takes medications for diabetes and high blood pressure while Mrs. Larkin reports not even needing to take an aspirin.
Eating a vegan diet has been scientifically shown to prevent a number of diseases including cardiovascular disease, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, diabetes, prostate cancer, colon cancer, breast cancer, macular degeneration, cataracts, arthritis, and osteoporosis. Being vegan also provides such nutritional benefits as reducing saturated fats, reducing carbohydrates, increasing fiber, and increasing the intake of magnesium, potassium, folate, antioxidants, phytochemicals, and vitamins A and E.
These nutritional benefits precipitate a number of positive physical outcomes such as increasing energy, making skin healthier, and increasing longevity. A vegan diet has also been shown to reduce PMS symptoms in women, eliminate the occurrence of migraines, and also alleviate allergy symptoms. Being vegan also reduces a person’s exposure to some of the most harmful things about the American diet including eating too much protein, too many eggs, consuming high levels of mercury in fish and shellfish, and also consuming too much sugar.
