Governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos State, Jimi Agbaje has sent a congratulatory message to winner of the Saturday, March 28, 2015 presidential election, General Muhammadu Buhari.
Speaking via a message posted on his official Facebook page, Agbaje hailed President Goodluck Jonathan for showing true leadership by putting the interest of the country before his.
He went on to urge Lagosians to effect the same change as seen in the Presidential election when the Lagos gubernatorial election holds on Saturday, April 11, 2015.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has ruled Lagos for 16 uninterrupted years, since the return of democracy in 1999.
Agbaje wrote:
I want to take this opportunity to congratulate General Buhari on his being declared winner of the Presidential elections.
President GOODLUCK Jonathan has shown leadership by putting the interest of our country first. His commitment to a credible, free and fair election and ensuring a violence free post election is commendable.
Today, whether you’re PDP, APC, KOWA, APA or ACPN – whatever your political affiliation – we can all hold our heads high and be proud of our country and budding democracy – which is definitely here to stay.
As for the upcoming gubernatorial elections in Lagos, our work doesn’t end here. The peoples clamour for change that has swept the nation continues. Next week Saturday, it will be our turn. But this will not come easy – by any stretch of the imagination. Although I’ve always considered myself as the underdog in this race, we know that we have a pretty good chance if only we all put our hands on deck and ensure that we see this through.
Lagosians, this is our moment, this is our time. Our dream for a more inclusive, more transparent, more progressive government is here if only we have the courage to take it.
