NAIROBI, Kenya – The capital of Kenya, Nairobi is abuzz with anticipation as it gets ready to roll out the red carpet for Africa’s biggest model talent hunt, Africa’s Next Super Model 2023.
Billed as one of the continent’s premier beauty pageants, the event boasts a tempting prize of Ksh.700,000 ($5,000), is set to be held at the posh Radisson Blu Hotel in Upper Hill on October 28, 2023.
The show promises to be more than just a dazzling display of high fashion and runway glamour. As put by the organisers, it is a vivid celebration of Africa’s rich diversity and unparalleled creativity.
Kenya, the host nation, is expected to put its best foot forward with four shining stars. Nelly Atabo, Wilkister Chepkoech, Nancy Njoki, and Agnes Wakoyu will represent the country, weaving a tapestry of culture, talent, and fashion bound to enthral the audience.
Joan Okorodudu, the Nigerian-born CEO of the celebrated Isis Models International, couldn’t hide her excitement when she spoke with The Trent on Saturday, October 7, 2023.
“This isn’t just a competition; it’s a melting pot of cultures, a celebration of the continent’s modelling might,” Mrs. Okorodudu, a former Miss Nigeria runner-up and former Olympian, remarked.
According to Okorodudu, the event has drawn interest from over 31 agents across various countries, including Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa, Ethiopia, Rwanda, Burundi, and Uganda.
A noteworthy feature of this year’s event will be its inclusivity. Africa’s Next Super Model seeks to represent talent from every corner of the continent, showcasing models from areas like the Kakuma refugee camp, and highlighting the diversity and depth of African talent.
The anticipation is palpable as models are expected to start arriving from October 20, 2023. With a vast pool of participants, the competition promises to be fierce.
Only the top 20 will get the chance to sashay down the runway, making it an intense fight for the spotlight.
The event is building on the foundation laid by its inaugural edition, which took place in Kigali, Rwanda, in November 2022. A beauty queen from Burundi, Niteka Marvella, won the title of first Africa’s Next Super Model and took home the prize of $5,000.
Given the success of its debut, this year’s Africa’s Next Super Model promises to up the ante, setting the stage for what could become a staple in the global fashion calendar.
