Africa Will Soon Record 1.3 Million COVID-19 Cases

The Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention, CDC, on Sunday, September 6, 2020, said the number of COVID-19 positive cases has risen to 1,291,724 in the continent.

CDC also said that the death toll from the ongoing coronavirus pandemic climbed to 31,056.

The African Union, AU, Commission’s specialised healthcare agency said the number of COVID-19 recoveries in the continent reached 1,031,453.

Africa’s total coronavirus cases represent about five percent of all cases reported globally, it said.

The Africa CDC, on Friday, said that nine African countries, including South Africa, Ethiopia, and Libya accounted for about 81 percent of the new coronaviruscases reported during the past week.

The Federal Government said it has spent N30,540,563,571.09 donated funds to fight COVID-19 from 1st April to 30th July, 2020.

A total of N36.3 billion was donated by Nigerians to the Federal Government under the CACOVID initiatives at the perk of the pandemic.

While the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, coordinated and warehoused the collection, the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation, OAGF, managed and released the funds to government agencies to fight COVID-19.

Recently, the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project, SERAP, and Connected Development, CODE, had requested from OAGF details of COVID-19 spending under the Freedom of Information Act, FOI.
