Three soldiers of the Afghan National Army have gone missing after a shopping trip during their training in the United States.
The missing soldiers identified as Major Jan Mohammad Arash, Captain Mohammad Nasir Askarzada, and Captain Noorullah Aminyar , were in Massachusetts for training, WJLA reports.
US authorities confirm that this is the second time in a week that security trainees from Afghanistan would go missing and they say that the missing soldiers do not appear to pose a threat to the public.
Earlier this month, two Afghan police officers training with the DEA wandered off during a sightseeing trip to Georgetown. The police men decided they wanted to stay in the United States, but authorities found them and sent them home, according to CNN.
The missing soldiers arrived in the US on September 11, 2014 along with twelve other Afghan soldiers to partake in a Exercise Regional Cooperation in which troops from six other nations are participating. The programme is scheduled to end on Wednesday and the missing soldiers were last seen at a mall in Hyannis.
“Base and exercise officials are working with local police and state authorities to locate the three Afghans,” a member of the team from the Massachusetts National Guard working on the case said.
