Kassim Afegbua, spokesman to former military president, Ibrahim Babangida has arrived the Headquarters of the Nigeria Police Force, Abuja in company of Kayode Ajulo, his lawyer, and family members to honor the invitation extended to him by the Police authorities.
Afegbua was declared wanted over a released statement purportedly sanctioned by Ibrahim Babangida
His lawyers yesterday instituted a N1bn suit against the Police, Channels Television and NTA over the declaration.
He is still being interrogated as at the time of filing in this report.
The Nigeria Police Force on Monday, February 5, 2018, formally declared Kassim Afegbua, spokesman to former military head of state, Ibrahim Babangida, wanted.
According to a bulletin released by Jimoh Moshood, the police public relations officer, the inspector general of police has ordered the immediate arrest of Afegbua for making false statements, injurious falsehood, defamation of character and for act capable of inciting Public disturbance throughout the country”.
“He is therefore declared wanted by the Nigeria Police Force and should report at the nearest Police Station anywhere he is in the country”.
The arrest order came less than 24 hours after Kassim Afegbua issued a widely circulated statement on the state of the nation, purportedly sanctioned by the gap-toothed general, Ibrahim Babangida.
In the statement, Babangida allegedly lambasted Buhari’s leadership and urged him to step aside for a ‘new generation of leaders’ in 2019.
The former president, through his son, disowned the statement and issued another one, signed by him, in which he stressed the need for the realignment of political forces for the emergence of two strong parties in the country.
In another twist, Afegbua however insisted in a Channels TV interview, that he had the full authorization of General Babangida to issue the statement.
