KANO, Nigeria – The 15th Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Bayero, has announced the cancellation of the Eid-el-Fitr Durbar celebration due to ongoing security concerns in the state.

The decision was made public on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, during a briefing at his Nasarawa Mini Palace in Kano.

Emir Bayero explained that the safety and peaceful coexistence of the people were more important than the traditional Durbar celebration.

He had initially planned for the Durbar to coincide with his fifth anniversary on the throne, but after consultations with respected Islamic clerics, elders, stakeholders, and council members, it was decided that the event would be cancelled to ensure peace and security in the region.

The Emir urged the people of Kano to use the Sallah period to visit family and friends, while observing the festivities in a peaceful and harmonious atmosphere.

He also offered prayers for Allah’s blessings and mercy during the month of Ramadan, hoping that the people of Kano would receive forgiveness and divine mercy.
