Two time world player of the year, Ronaldinho Gaúcho is surprisingly a free agent just two months after joining Brazilian club, Fluminense on an 18-month deal.
The 35-year-old made just nine appearances since arriving at the Maracana before formally asking to be released by the club; a request Fluminense hurriedly accepted.
Reports have it that Ronaldinho usually turned up late for training in poor physical condition as a result of his party lifestyle.
A statement by the club reads:
“Fluminense hereby announces the termination of the contract with the athlete Ronaldinho Gaucho, amicably and by mutual agreement.
“From the first contact with the directors, the athlete and his representative addressed the club with professionalism and respect,” the statement continued. “The same positive attitude was demonstrated in routine activities.
“Fluminense and Ronaldinho will maintain their ties and plan to work on other projects in the future.
“It should be noted that the deal met marketing expectations, increasing ticket sales, the number of shirts sold, and commercial partners.
“The Ronaldinho deal also showed that Fluminense can arouse the interest of the greatest players in world football.
“Fluminense thanks Ronaldinho and wishes him good luck in the next stage of his journey.”
