The Sallah day celebration for Muslims across the globe was filled with merriment and ecstasy as people wined and dined with friends and families in commemoration of the event.
However, some families have a different version of the story to tell after losing dear ones who were anticipating a great celebration with but unfortunately couldn’t live to share the experience.
While travelling for the Eid- El- Kabir celebration with family and friends on Friday, October 3, 2014, about eight people were reportedly killed following an auto crash along Akure/Owo expressway, in Ondo State.
Sources disclosed that eight lives were lost during the sad incident and about three other persons sustained severe injuries after the accident.
According to Vanguard, it was gathered that the victims of the crash were travelling in a Toyota Sienna vehicle marked Anambra ABN 214, which was on its way to the Federal Capital Territory.
Reports disclosed that the vehicle collided with a truck coming from an opposite direction which is marked Lagos LND 426 XC after overtaking another vehicle in a wrong way.
According to an eye witness, nine passengers were travelling in the Sienna bus and about six died instantly while two others were rescued but later reported dead on their way to the hospital.
About three other victims which included passengers travelling in the truck who sustained heavy injuries were said to be currently receiving treatment at the Federal Medical Centre(FMC), Owo.
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and police officials were commended for early intervention at the scene of the incident which saved the situation and helped rescue some of the survivors of the fatal accident.
Sources also revealed that with the help of the FRSC Officials and policemen, the Sienna was pulled out from underneath the truck after the crash.
Meanwhile, it was learnt that the officials made use of cutlasses and other instruments to break the bus open before the victims were recovered.
Confirming the incident, the spokesman for Ondo State Police Command, Wole Ogodo said that the accident took place on Friday and the three person who survived the crash were responding to treatment at the FMC, Owo.
The police spokesman said that the driver of the truck escaped from the scene immediately the crash occurred.
