Tanko Yakasai, a founding member of the Arewa Consultative Forum, has backed the decision of the Presidential candidate of All Progressive Congress, APC, Bola Ahmad Tinubu on the choice of Kashim Shettima, a former governor of Borno, State saying that a Muslim-Muslim ticket “can win the election”.
Yakasai made this known on Sunday, July 10, 2023, while reacting to the political development in the country.
He described the decision as a right decision and well calculated.
“We have had it before, MKO Abiola and Kingibe, and they won the election. It’s just that the military cancelled the election, but they won. Muslim-Muslim ticket can win elections in Nigeria,” Yakasai is quoted as saying.
“Do you think it will be right for Tinubu, a Muslim who is a minority in the South to pick a Christian who are a minority in the north as his running mate and you expect him to win the election? You cannot,” Yakasai.
The elder statesman attempted to allay the fear nursed by many Nigerians that the Muslim-Muslim ticket is a threat to the collective well-being and unity of Nigeria.
Mr Tinubu, a former Lagos Governor, announced Mr Shettima, the immediate past governor of Borno as his running mate in the 2023 general elections.
