Abduction of Naval Rating, 7 Others Confirmed in Akwa Ibom

EKET, Nigeria — The Police Command in Akwa Ibom has confirmed the abduction of a naval rating and seven others in Ibaka Local Government Area.

The incident occurred on Monday, July 15, 2024, at the Classic Point Hotel, Ibaka, where the victims were reportedly relaxing.

Police Public Relations Officer ASP Timfon John verified the abduction in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday.

“The Commissioner of Police has already led a team of security personnel to the community. I can assure you that with that visit by the Commissioner of Police and other strategic approaches being taken, normalcy will return,” John stated.

The abductors have taken the victims to an unknown destination, leaving the community in a state of apprehension.

Following the abduction, the Commissioner of Police, CP Waheed Ayilara, immediately mobilized a team of police officers to the scene.

His prompt action aims to reassure the community and expedite the return to normalcy.

Sub.-Lt. Nasiru Omar, the Base Information Officer, stated he had not yet received official information about the abduction.

“I don’t know anything about it yet; you know how we do things if the incident is not official, I cannot say anything about it,” Omar commented.

The police command is currently employing various strategic approaches to ensure the safe return of the abducted individuals.

As investigations continue, the authorities urge residents to remain calm and cooperate with law enforcement agencies.
