DOVER, USA – Hunter Biden, son of President Joe Biden, has reached a plea agreement with the U.S. Attorney for Delaware, David Weiss, over two federal misdemeanour charges of failing to pay taxes.
Court documents filed on Tuesday, June 20, 2023 revealed that Biden also faces a gun possession charge, which will likely be dismissed subject to certain conditions.
The plea agreement, sources say, includes a clause where the U.S. Attorney will recommend probation for Biden over his tax violations.

Legal observers suggest that neither the tax nor gun charges will lead to jail time for Biden.
The five-year-long federal investigation into Hunter Biden’s affairs by the FBI, IRS officials, and federal prosecutors is likely coming to a close with this decision.
Weiss, a Trump appointee, was retained by the Biden administration to circumvent any appearance of a conflict of interest in the President’s son’s case.
Chris Clark, Hunter Biden’s attorney, told NBC News, “With the announcement of two agreements between my client, Hunter Biden, and the Unites States Attorney’s Office for the District of Delaware, it is my understanding that the five-year investigation into Hunter is resolved.”
In his statement, Clark also noted that Biden would assume responsibility for two misdemeanor instances of late tax filing, according to a plea agreement.
A firearm charge will be subject to a pretrial diversion agreement, not part of the plea agreement.
Hunter Biden had previously settled the tax liabilities for 2017 and 2018, the years named in the charges.
The felony gun possession charge will be addressed through a pre-trial diversion agreement, a legal maneuver that drops charges if the defendant meets certain conditions, such as avoiding criminal activity for a specified time. The specific conditions in Biden’s gun case were not disclosed in the court documents.
A White House spokesperson, Ian Sams, voiced the support of President Biden and First Lady for their son: “The President and First Lady love their son and support him as he continues to rebuild his life. We will have no further comment.”
Hunter Biden will be expected to surrender to Delaware authorities for an arraignment scheduled in the next few weeks.
This resolution implies that the prosecutors found no grounds to file charges related to Hunter Biden’s dealings with foreign entities. President Trump and several Republican-led congressional inquiries have long alleged that Biden engaged in years of criminal conduct with individuals connected to the Chinese government and companies in Ukraine and other countries.
The Office of the U.S. Attorney for the District of Delaware, The Justice Department, and the IRS Criminal Investigation Division did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
