According to a Non-Governmental Organisation, the National Unity Group (NUG), about nine presidential aspirants are set to forfeit their presidential ambition and throw the full weight of their support behind President Goodluck Jonathan’s re-election bid.

The NUG made this known in Abuja while briefing journalists on Saturday, January 31, 2015.

Although, the group  failed to mention which candidate, Cairo Ojougboh, National Secretary of the NUG said the group has had consultative meeting with several of the candidates on the importance on joining President Jonathan’s campaign train.

He further spoke 0on his happiness with the President for his giant strides, especially in the northern part of the country.

He said: “We are counting on all Nigerians, northerners especially, that they should not be intimidated, they should go out and vote massively for Mr President. For this country to remain united and for the progress we are experiencing now to continue, there is the need for all to cooperate with Mr President and vote massively for the PDP.”

Another member of the group, Senator Chris Ukpabi said the group had done a critical assessment of President Jonathan’s administration and have come to the conclusion that he was the best man for the job, calling on all Nigerians to support his re-election campaign team so as to proceed with the good work he has been doing.

Other notable members of the group present include former governor of old Anambra and Edo States, Chukwuemeka Ezeife and Oserheimen Osunbor respectively, amongst others.
