Gov Imoke Suspends And Decertifies 7 Traditional Rulers In Cross River

Governor Liyel Imoke of Cross River State yesterday approved the suspension and decertification of seven village and clan heads who were said to have incited violence and destruction in Mbarakom, Akamkpa LGA of the state following a chieftaincy disagreement.

In a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Chieftaincy Affairs, Mr John Eyikwaje, Imoke said government was saddened by the inability of the traditional rulers to maintain peace in their communities.

The statement said their inability resulted in wanton destruction of property and unrest despite efforts by government to bring about peace and reconciliation in the Nyakasang community of Mbarakom clan.

Those affected include Ntufam Joseh Iyaha, clan head; Okon B Duke, Ibonda village head; Cyril E. E. E. Itakpa, Ofutop village head; Sirinus Itasima, Egoi Ntufam village head.

Others are; Dominic Okon Ajom, Igogim village head, Felix Okon Itakpa, Osung village head, Peter E. Erom, Ejosen village head.
