In a ground breaking surgery conducted at the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, a 7-month old baby has undergone a successful heart surgery.
The operation which is said to been carried out on the youngest patient so far in the country was said to have been carried out by a consortium of doctors from Nigeria, America, Canada and India.
The patient, Enriola weighed 3.8kg and was unable to grow properly because of a hole in her heart.
Head of Cardiology, Kamar Adeleke (Head, Tri-State Cardiovascular Institute, Delaware, USA), revealed to newsmen that the operation was very delicate as the patient, Enriola has emaciated much and her chances of survival were quite slim.
According to her mother, Olubunmi Fakoya, Enriola was diagnosed 3 months after birth and has been frequenting hospitals since then. Two hours after the successful surgery, the happy mother told Channels TV that some positive changes and improvements have been noticed.
