Long distance relationships just don’t work, right? Well, that’s not always the case but is the majority of the time. There’s a reason why couples find it difficult to stay together with a distance between them and here are the most common ones.
1. Lack Of Time Together
You need to spend time together to build your relationship. This is more than just spending a few hours on the phone each week. You need to be around each other, explore with each other and just spend time in silence together.
You can’t do this when you’re living so far apart. You constantly need to update each other on everything you’re doing and try to find times when you can meet up.
2. Jealousy And Trust Issues
Another common problem is the jealousy that builds between couples. You hear about the time your boyfriend is spending with his friends—some of them girls—and wish it could be with you. This brings in the trust issues.
When you hear about the time he’s spending with other girls, you start to imaging the things he’s doing with them. He’s doing the same and it leads to friction and an eventual breakup.
3. You Meet Other People
Other people will come into your lives. This is natural and happens even when you live with each other. However, when your relationship is long distance, it can be a deal breaker. You both find people that you can spend time with and grow to like as more than a friend.
When you’re together, there is always that physical closeness between the two of you to stop either of your straying. With that physical closeness not there, it’s really easy to move on.
4. Where Is The Relationship Going?
Being apart leads to the question of where the relationship is going. You may only be apart temporarily, which means you know you will be together again soon.
However, if you both have different dreams and different things are keeping you apart, you may never know whether you will see each other or be able to have a normal relationship together. There’s no point in pretending to yourself that all is going well. You need to have that relationship talk with him.
5. Effort Is Needed
More effort is needed from both of you to make such a relationship work out. If you’re not interested in that, then it really isn’t going to work. You need to spend time talking and arrange dates to see each other.
It means financial commitments as well as personal ones. Eventually, one of you is going to have to move if you want the relationship to grow.
.6. It’s Hard To Communicate
Communication is essential when you’re in a relationship, but the distance makes that hard. You can talk on the phone and connect via social media, but that can all lead to miscommunication.
And you’re never guaranteed that one of you can talk for as long as the other wants.
