President Jonathan Sends Relief Materials To Victims Of Violence In Zamfara

NAN – The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), on Sunday distributed 26 trailer load of relief materials to families of those killed in various attacks by gunmen in Zamfara.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the materials were distributed to families of 1,622 persons killed in various attacks across the 14 local government areas of the state.

The distribution was supervised by the Minister of State for Finance, Amb. Bashir Yuguda.

Speaking at the event in Gusau, Yuguda said the gesture was in fulfillment of the promise made by President Goodluck Jonathan six months ago, to assist the families.

“The president condemns the killing of innocent people across the country and is working tirelessly to see that the menace is brought to an end,

“If you can recall, last six months, I was sent by Mr President here in Zamfara to condole with the families of the victims where the presidential promise was made.

“I am happy to present the assistance in fulfillment of the promise”, he said.

The Director-General of NEMA, Alhaji Sani Sidi, said the materials included grains, beddings, building materials and other food items.

Sidi, who was represented by the Director, Disaster Reduction of the Agency, Alhaji Alhassan Nuhu, urged the distribution committee to ensure justice and fairness during the exercise.

Chairman of the distribution committee Alhaji Hassan Nasiha, commended the federal government for the gesture.

Nasiha, who is the state Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, said that the materials would be distributed fairly to all concerned.
