About 6 staff of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Isiala Ngwa area of Abia State have been arrested and are currently helping police in their investigation after the discovery of scores of Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs) in the house of a criminal suspect.
Vanguard reports that police were investigating an unnamed criminal in the area for a different crime when they stumbled on the said PVCs in the house of the suspect where they had gone to carry out a search.
The discovery made the police approach the Abia State Headquarters of INEC to ascertain the authenticity of the PVCs, which returned affirmative.
This led to the the summoning of its staff in the area, who failed to give satisfactory answers as to how the cards got to the suspects abode and why there were no reports of missing PVCs, either through stealing or snatching.
Six staff were subsequently arrested.
The issue has been reported to the INEC Headquarters in Abuja with the cards placed in interdiction as the commission sees the offence as very serious.
