56th Independence: FG Unveils Low-Key Celebration Schedule

Babachir Lawal,  the secretary to the government of the federation, SGF, has said that the 56th Independence anniversary will be low key.

In a statement signed by Bolaji Adebiyi, the director of press in the office of the SGF says that there will be in prayers offered mosques and churches.

The climax of the Independence celebrations would be a change of guards by soldiers at the State House on Saturday, October 1, 2016.

“His Excellency, President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the programme of events to commemorate Nigeria’s 56th Independence Anniversary,” the statement said.

The details of the programme are as follows:

“Inter-denominational Thanksgiving Church Service, Sunday, September 25, 2016 at 4.00 pm at the National Worship Centre, Abuja.

Public Lecture and Jummaat Prayers, Friday, September 30, 2016 at the National Mosque, Abuja

“While the two events above are open to members of the public, the Presidential Change of Guard which is scheduled for Saturday, October 1, 2016 at 3.00 pm at the Forecourt of the Presidential Villa, State House, Abuja is ‘Strictly by Invitation’,” the statement said.
