AKURE, Nigeria — Police authorities in Ondo State have begun investigating the murder of Olakunbi Adene, a 54-year-old woman who was found dead in her residence in the Oda Road Area of Akure, the state capital, on Sunday, July 28, 2024.

Reports indicate that Adene’s lifeless body was discovered on her bed in a pool of blood, suggesting she was violently killed.

The discovery has shocked the local community and raised questions about the circumstances surrounding her death.

According to sources, Adene had recently celebrated her 54th birthday, entertaining several guests at her home just days before the tragic incident.

Dele Adene, the deceased’s husband, expressed his grief and frustration over the lack of arrests in connection with his wife’s murder.

“I was told that my wife’s corpse was found on her bed in a pool of blood which showed she was hacked to death. I cannot believe that no arrests have been made up till the moment of talking to you. I feel suspects should have been arrested,” he said.

He further criticised the authorities for not taking swift action, including tracking his wife’s phone.

“Her phone should be tracked and I don’t know how dwellers in the building did not know such a thing happened in a house with four flats apartment,” Dele added.

Tejumade, the deceased’s daughter, recounted how she learned about her mother’s death.

“I came back from the church and was trying her line, but it was switched off. I later received a call from my mother’s brother who called to inform me that my mother had been killed,” she said.

The remains of Olakunbi Adene have been deposited at a mortuary in Akure as the investigation continues.

When contacted, the spokesman for the Ondo State Police Command, SP Funmilayo Odunlami, confirmed the incident. “I am aware of the incident, and an investigation is currently ongoing,” she stated.

The police have yet to release further details about potential suspects or the progress of the investigation, but the community and the family of the deceased are hoping for swift justice.
