At least five taxi passengers have been reported dead as a pedestrian bridge under construction in Kano State collapsed on top of the vehicle in the evening of Sunday, April 26, 2015.
The collapsed pedestrian bridge is located at Karshen waya by Gidan mai on the Sheik Jafar road of the state.
A source, Salisu Ibrahim, who witnessed the incident told Vanguard that the incident occurred around 5.00 pm of the fateful day.
According to him, the taxi which was moving before it was crushed by the bridge was occupied by five passengers including the driver.
He said, “It would be miracle if any passengers survived this accident.”
Ibrahim explained that the cab was trapped under the rubles and would need a crane to rescue the victims.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, ASP Magaji Musa Majia who confirmed the incident said that efforts were made to rescue the trapped passengers.
