For allegedly damaging palm trees belonging to one Raji Misitura in Osogbo, 46-year-old Muliu Popoola, has been remanded by an Osun State magistrate court in the Ilesa Prison.
The prosecutor, Inspector Isiaka Ajadi, had told the court at Osogbo that the accused committed the offence on June 30, 2014, at about 7:00am, at Alare Iyiola’s compound, Osogbo.
“The accused unlawfully and willfully entered into the compound of one Mrs Raji Mistura, without the complainant’s permission,’’ Ajadi said.
Ajadi said the accused allegedly damaged all the palm trees in the compound, before Raji rushed out to go report to the police.
According to Ajadi, the accused arraigned on a one-count charge of unlawful damage, an offence which contravened Section 451 of the Criminal Code cap 34, Vol.11 Laws of Osun, 2003.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge against him.
His Counsel, Mrs Ayoola Popoola, prayed the court to grant her client bail in the most liberal terms.
The presiding magistrate, Mr Olusola Aluko, however, overruled the bail application and ordered that the accused be remanded in prison custody, till the next date of adjournment – July 4 – when the case will come up for mention.
