A lorry containing ballot boxes belonging to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has been intercepted by operatives attached to the Oyo State Police Command on Wednesday, January 7, 2015,
The ballot boxes, which were in a 40-feet container was discovered in Yemetu area of the Oyo State capital, Ibadan around 2 am, as the vehicle made its way to Osun State.
Punch gathered that the vehicle was initially stopped on suspicion of conveying contraband itemsonly to discover that it was filled with ballot boxes meant for next month’s general election.
The trailer and its consignment were later released after investigation showed that the boxes was being transported to Osun State by INEC.
A source said, “A trailer carrying a 40-feet container with registration number FKJ 285 XN was actually impounded by the police but after a thorough check, it was cleared and released.”
The Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer, Kayode Ajusebutu, when contacted said he was out of the state and needed to contact the Commissioner of Police.
