Over 4 Thousand PVC’s Snatched In Akwa Ibom

The Resident Electoral Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission in Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Austin Okojie has announced that about 4,503 Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) have been snatched by hoodlums in five local governments in the state.

Okojie announced that 664 were snatched in Abak Local Government Area, 96 in Ikono, 208 in Mkpat Enin, 2,333 in Oruk Anam and 1,202 and Ukanafun.

He said: “We had a security issue where a total of 4,503 of the permanent voter cards were snatched during the exercise in five local government areas of Akwa Ibom State.”

Okojie made the announcement while addressing traditional rulers at a state summit on Tuesday, January 13, 2015, stating that about 1,468,780 PVCs were sent to the state. He revealed that of the cards sent to the state, 1,177,910 had been distributed while 284,915 were yet to be picked up.

The commissioner pleaded with the traditional rulers to make sure free and fair elections were held in their domains.
