NAN – The Zuba Upper Area Court, FCT Abuja, on Friday, July 3, 2015 sentenced a 36-year-old businessman, Ayebo Adebayo, to four months imprisonment for cheating a customer of N590,000.
Adebayo of Airport Road, Abuja, was also charged with criminal breach of trust.
The Presiding Officer of the court, Malam Aminu Sa’ad, handed the sentence.
Sa’ad passed the sentence after the accused pleaded guilty to the two-count charge of criminal breach of trust and cheating.
He, however, gave the convict an option to pay a fine of N15,000 and an order to refund the N590,000 to the nominal complainant as compensation.
The prosecutor, Insp. Haruna Danlami, had earlier told the court that on July 1, one Azubuike Emodi of Deidei, Abuja, came to Zuba police station to report the matter.
Danlami said Emodi told the police in his statement that sometimes in 2011, he gave the convict the amount in question to supply him with timber wood, but Adebayo converted the money to his personal use.
The prosecutor told the court that his offences contravened the provisions of sections 312 and 322 of the Penal Code.
