Not long ago, the Federal Government announced the anti-gay law which prohibits Nigerians and everyone within the country’s territory from having sex/sensual relationships with individuals of the same sex. The law also came with a 14-year jail term for any offender.
Months on, the act which barely occurs in this part of the world with cases few and far between has been on a steady decline, in fact almost disappearing into oblivion.
A 35-year-old man has been remanded in Gwagwalada area of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) for engaging in the outlawed act with a minor.
Leadership reports:
An Upper Area Court sitting in Gwagwalada, FCT, on Tuesday, remanded one Salmanu Abdullahi in prison custody for having non-consensual anal sex with an 11-year-old boy.
Abdullahi, 35, of Angwan Dodo in Gwagwalada Area Council of the FCT was arraigned on a one-count charge of committing an unnatural offence.
The prosecutor, Insp. Martha Paul, told the court that the accused person, a neighbour to the victim, invited the boy to his room and had anal sex with him.
Paul said the accused person had confessed committing the offence and that the victim was rushed to the National Hospital, Abuja, for medical treatment.
She said the medical bill of the victim was yet to be ascertained and that the offence was commitment on June 2 at about 4 p.m.
The accused person pleaded guilty to the offence but the Presiding Judge, Alhaji Alhassan Kusherki, ordered that he be remanded in prison custody and reserved his sentence until July 16.
