A 33-year-old man, Onyekachi Okadigbo, was on Tuesday, January 12, 2016 charged before an Ikeja High Court, Lagos State for allegedly drugging a trader, Alhaji Mohammed Adio before robbing him of 85 million CFA at gunpoint.
Okadigbo, who claimed to be a businessman, living in a house beside poultry at Alawuro Street on Lagos-Badagry Expressway, is being tried for conspiracy and armed robbery.
He, however, denied the charges.
According to the prosecution led by Mrs Mosunmola Ogunsanya, the defendant committed the offence on Nov. 14, 2014 with others still at large on the Lagos-Badagry Expressway.
She said the accused and his accomplices were in a bus heading to Seme border in Badagry when they robbed Adio, who was a passenger in the bus.
“The complainant, who is a trader, was going to Seme in a commercial bus to buy some clothes to sell in Lagos.
“Unknown to him, the passengers in the bus including the defendant were members of the robbery gang.
“The defendant and his accomplices forced Adio at gunpoint to drink some water which was laced with an unidentified drug which rendered him unconscious,” he told the court.
Ogunsanya said the complainant was dispossessed of 85million CFA, five BlackBerry Curve mobile phones, ECOWAS passport and clothes.
“Adio woke up three days later at a hospital in Badagry and found himself naked and dispossessed of his valuables.
“The defendant was caught in January 2015 for another crime when he was identified by Adio during a police identification parade two months after.’’
The offences violate of Sections 295 (2), (a) and 297 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
Justice Sedotan Ogunsanya ordered Okadigbo to be remanded in prison custody and adjourned the case to March 21 for continuation of trial.
