NAN – The police on Tuesday, April 14, 2015 arraigned one Ndubisi Akpan, 32, in a Wuse Zone 2 Senior Magistrates’ Court, Abuja, for allegedly beating a man to coma.
The prosecutor, Sgt. Abdullahi Alhassan, said the accused, a businessman, who resides at Gosa, along Airport Road, Abuja, was arraigned on a three-count charge of criminal force, assault and causing bodily harm.
Alhassan told the court that the accused committed the alleged offence on Thursday, April 9, 2015 while one Monday Paul reported the case at the Mabushi Police Station.
The prosecutor said the accused allegedly beat the complainant to a coma, for preventing a commercial vehicle from conveying the bags of cement bought by him(accused) from the depot..
The prosecutor told the court that the accused who had previously been convicted on two different occasions for similar offence, allegedly admitted committing the crime.
He said the offence contravened sections 265 and 246 of the Penal Code.
The accused, however, denied the allegations and pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Magistrate Aliyu Shafa granted him bail in the sum of N300, 000 with one surety in like sum.
Shafa, who ordered that the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction, adjourned hearing till Wednesday, May 13, 2015.
