A 3-year-old girl starved to death while her mother was away to visit her boyfriend.
The Japanese girl named Noa, was left alone for 8 days without food or water.
Her mother, 24-year-old Saki Kakehashi who lives in Tokyo, traveled 600 miles on a 2hour flight to visit her lover in Kagoshima Prefecture on Kyushu Island.
Kakehashi returned home on June 13 to her apartment 8 days later to meet her daughter lying unresponsive.
She called emergency services to report that Noa was not breathing. The officials arrived to meet little Noa in diapers that had not been changed for days and rashes on her body.
An autopsy revealed that the Noa had thymic atrophy, a typical symptom of abused children, and her stomach was empty.
Her mother said she thought ‘it would be alright’ to leave the child alone in their apartment while she was away on her trip.
Kakehashi claimed her daughter had been ill for several days and she did not have the funds to take her to hospital, before admitting to the allegations against her.
She was arrested on Tuesday, July 7, 2020.
