What is a “side chick”? In my own simple terms, I define a side chick as a female who is involved in sëxual relations with a male who is in a committed relationship with another person. One may ask why on earth an individual would voluntarily choose to play this role in life. It sounds degrading, trifling, and just downright wrong. However, in a society where the idea of “every man for himself” becomes more widespread and the concept of a monogamous, traditional marriage becomes less and less popular with time, the side chick starts to prevail. She has reared her ugly little head in pop culture media numerous times over the past year, and unlike the old days where she was plagued with a scarlet letter and owned humility, she now is bold, fierce, and daring to be judged. Why are side chicks settling for second place and loving it? I found three reasons:
1) Convenience – It takes time to develop and maintain a healthy relationship with a significant other. Trust is a very important part of relationships and is established over time. Side chicks have the pleasure of not having to be concerned with the emotional stress behind opening themselves up to trust. They know their role in a clearly defined, simple sëxual relationship and not much is required of them. They get theirs and get out, avoiding any headaches.
2) Thrill – Some find excitement in living a secret life. Obviously to be in an undercover relationship, there are always strategic steps made in finding out the best time to partake in sëxual relations with their taken partner. A lot of the hookups may take place late at night, on long lunch breaks, out of town, etc. To side chicks, the “creeping” never gets old. They live for thrill of not knowing where or when the next ?rgasm may occur.
3) Short-term Cure – In an odd and crazy way, side chicks feel needed. They believe their secret lovers are in relationships where they are unhappy, so she fills an important void.
In closing, I personally feel that to lower yourself to this level of “importance” is sad. Those being fulfilled in this role suffer from insecurity issues. Feeling needed, living the thrill, and calling the situation convenient is all a cover-up for what is really a void inside of one’s soul. I’m a firm believer in the famous Bible verse “do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” The most important part in all of this is respect, honesty, and integrity for another individual. There are several victims involved in these circumstances. The one being cheated on is not alone in suffering from betrayal, it is just that the two cheaters are forcing betrayal on themselves. One should always rise above the temptations and hold integrity and respect at a higher regard.
