No fewer than three officers of Nigeria Immigration Service, NIS, Oyo State Command have clashed with some politicians in Ibadan.
Some immigration officers told Daily Post that the three officers including the Public Relations Officer of the command, Olufemi Adetunji sustained various degrees of injuries during the clash.
Sporadic gunshots had been reported at the Agodi-Gate area of Ibadan on Wednesday, August 18, 2021, after some immigration officers allegedly harassed a local government chairman and some of his aides.
Daily Post learnt that the immigration officers allegedly slapped Mr. Shuaib Yusuf Oladayo, Chairman of Ibadan North Local government area on Wednesday, August 18, 2021.
The headquarters of Oyo State Command of (NIS) is a stone throw to the Ibadan North local government Secretariat.
According to reports, trouble started when some youths who were protesting against the killing of a teenager in Ibadan stormed the area.
A source within the command said that three officers were also injured during the fracas that ensued.
The source, (name withheld), told Daily Post on Thursday, August 19, 2021, that Mr. Adetunji and two officers of the command were still nursing the wounds they sustained during the clash.
He explained further that some vehicles of the command were also vandalized.
“Directly, the PRO was injured. He and two of the officers were injured when they were trying to evacuate our vehicles.
“The two officers were with the PRO.
“They destroyed our vehicles too. I can narrate what happened to you but do not quote me.”
But the spokesman, Mr. Adetunji when contacted noted that the command will issue a statement to say its own side of the incident.
“We are paramilitary. We cannot just make statements like that. There will be an official statement.”
