An Oredo Magistrate’s Court sitting in Benin city had on Wednesday, October 21, 2015 arraigned three Nursing students of the Edo State School of Nursing for sexually assaulting a six-year-old girl in the school hostel located on Sapele Road.
Among the trio were 26-year-old Egbai Kenneth, 22-year-old Paul Aghama, and Osemwegie Jeffery.
The suspects were arraigned on two counts bordering on indecent assault, although they pleased not guilty to the charges.
The accused committed the offence “between the months of March and May 2015,” according to the police prosecutor represented by Corporal Evborhuan Kingsley, from the Family Unit of the state police command.
He said, “The suspects used their nails to penetrate the victim’s vagina and, thereby, committed an offence punishable under Section 360 of the Criminal Code, Cap 48, Vol. II, Law of the defunct Bendel State of Nigeria, 1976, now applicable in Edo State.”
The presiding magistrate, Mrs. M. Adebanjo, granted them bail in the sum of N300,000 each, with one surety each in like sum, who must be Grade level nine and above civil servants in the state.
Consequently, the case was adjourned till Friday, November 20, 2015.
