An Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court on Monday, September 28, 2015 remanded 29-year-old Azeez Ismaila standing trial for allegedly killing his wife, in prison.
The court remanded the suspect at the Ado-Ekiti Prison pending the receipt of advice from the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) in Ekiti state.
Ismaila was alleged to have killed his wife, Odunayo Ismaila on Friday.
The Prosecutor, Sgt. Bankole Olasunkanmi, told the court that the accused, committed the offence at Odo-Ado Area of Ado-Ekiti.
Although the plea of the accused was not taken, he denied killing his wife, saying that she died as a result of illness.
He told the court that his wife was attacked by cough on the day of the incident and was confirmed dead when she was rushed to the hospital.
The prosecutor said that the offence contravened Section 319 of the Criminal Code, Cap C16 Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.
He, however, urged the court to adjourn the case to enable him to duplicate the case file and send to the Department of Public Prosecution (DPP) for legal advice.
Consequently, the Chief Magistrate, Mr Taiwo Ayenimo, ordered that accused should be remanded in prison.
Ayenimo also directed the police to conduct autopsy on the deceased on time to ascertain the cause of the death.
He adjourned the case to Thursday, October 29, 2015.
