The Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party in Enugu State, Chief Vita Abba, on Saturday, October 25, 2014, resigned from the office in order to contest the 2015 general elections, Punch reports.
Abba who is said to be vying for a post in the House of Assembly was initially running as an Enugu state gubernatorial candidate before one of the legislators,Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi,emerged the party’s consensus gubernatorial candidate in will be seeking election into the House of Representatives.
Following this ambition, Abba tendered a resignation letter on Monday, October 20,2014 which was read and accepted at the PDP State Executive Committee meeting in Enugu on Saturday, October 25, 2014 geared towards the success of the party especially regarding the 2015 general elections.
The publicity secretary, Enugu State PDP, Dr. Okey Eze, in a statement commended Abba for his efforts during his tenure and announced that the executive members had selected a former chairman of the party, Chief Ikeje Asogwa as their new chairman in accordance with article 47 (6) of the party’s Constitution.
Furthermore, the statement said the committee “unanimously adopted Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi as the consensus governorship candidate of the party for the 2015 governorship election in Enugu State.”
