Officers of the Anambra State Police Command have arrested 20 suspected kidnappers within one week of its ‘Operation Clear All’ aimed at ridding the state of criminals.
The operation is against kidnappers and armed robbers who in the recent times have made life uncomfortable for people in in the State.
The police also recovered sophisticated arms and ammunition, 9,000 live cartridges and bags of Indian hemp from the suspects.
Addressing reporters on the development, the state Commissioner of Police, Usman Gwary, announced a continuous manhunt on kidnappers and armed robbers until Anambra becomes safe and peaceful.
He warned kidnappers to desist from the act, reminding them that the death penalty awaits perpetrators of such crime when found guilty after prosecution.
At the headquarters of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, (SARS) in Awkuzu, the arms on display, recovered from able bodied young men who chose to live crook, spoke volume of the weight of the arrest made.
They were all arrested within one week and in different locations as they flee areas of crime once they obtain the ransom demanded.
The State Commissioner of Police identified their areas of specialty and mode of operation while reeling out the arms recovered from the criminal suspects. He maintained that the war would not stop until criminality in all shades and form is caged in the state.
While some of them bowed their heads in shame, one known as “Nwa Jesus” (son of Jesus) did not only self-confessed his crime but was unscathed of the consequences of his actions.

Reacting to the latest development, having spear headed the formation of a Joint Security Task Force, the state governor, Willie Obiano, assured the police of his support, as they work to secure the state.
While the police paraded the suspected kidnappers, the State Department of Security Services (DSS), also paraded four car snatching suspects in the command headquarters in Awka.
These recent developments, the people say, will go a long way to restore the confidence of the people in the security agents in the state as well as the government of the day.
