After more than 70 years of having a cordial relationship, Vivian Boyack and Alice “Nonie” Dubes have finally decided to tie the knot.
Boyack aged 91 and her partner Dubes, 90, got married on Saturday, September 6, 2014.
“This is a celebration of something that should have happened a very long time ago,” the Rev. Linda Hunsaker told the small group of close friends and family who attended.
According to abc, the women met in their hometown of Yale, Iowa, while growing up. They together moved to Davenport in 1947 where Boyack taught at a school and Dubes did payroll work.
The pair have enjoyed most of their productive life together, travelling to all 50 states in the United States of America, all provinces in Canada and to England twice
“We’ve had a good time,” Dubes said.
Boyack admits that it takes a lot of time, work and love to maintain such a relationship for 72 years.
Longtime friend of the couple, 73-year old Jerry Yeast who used to work at in their yard said he met the couple when he was still a teenager.
“I’ve known these two women all my life, and I can tell you, they are special,” Yeast said.
The women said its never too late to start a new chapter in their life after Iowa legalised gay marriage in 2009.
