Two policemen died in an auto accident in Kwara state on Thursday, March 11, 2021.
The accident happened at Eyenkorin area of Ilorin, along the Ilorin-Ogbomoso expressway.
It was gathered they were in a police escort van when the lone accident happened.
Other occupants of the ill-fated vehicle were said to have been severely injured.
The policemen had escorted a bullion van to Ogbomoso from Ilorin and were on their way back when their vehicle rammed into a stationary trailer along the road.
The deceased were said to have been deposited at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital, UITH, Ilorin while the injured ones were said to be receiving medical attention in the hospital.
Ajayi Okasanmi, the spokesperson, PPRO, of the state command, confirmed the accident.
“The police officers were coming back from Ogbomoso where they had escorted bullion van. One of the tires of the escort vehicle burst and rammed into a trailer parked along the road.
“Two policemen died on the spot and some others were injured. They are being treated at the hospital,” he said.
Jonathan Owoade, the state sector commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, also confirmed the lone accident.
