2 Men Docked Over Alleged Theft Of MTN’s N1.2Million Backup Batteries

Two men were on Wednesday, October 28, 2015 charged before an Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan, Oyo State, for allegedly stealing 24 backup batteries valued at N1.2 million belonging to popular service provider, MTN Nigeria.

Opeyemi Oni, 22, and 42-year-old Adewale Salami, were arraigned on a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing and they both pleaded not guilty.

The Prosecutor, Sgt. Sunday Ojeleye told the court that Salami, a security guard with MTN, conspired with Oni and another still at large to steal the batteries on Sunday, October 18, 2015 at Amuloko in Jobele area of the state.

Ojeleye said: “The accused stole the backup batteries, but were caught by the police.’’

According to the prosecutor, the offence was a breach of the dictate of Section 383, 390 (9) and 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Oyo State, 2000.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Abdulateef Adebisi, granted the accused bail in the sum of N1million each with two sureties each in like sum.

Adebisi said one of the sureties must be a landed property owner as part of the bail conditions.

The case was adjourned for further mention until Wednesday, December 16, 2015.
