The Police in Lagos on Thursday, March 22, 2018, docked two men in an Ikorodu Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly beating up a man, Wasiu Olabijo, over a girlfriend.
The accused, Wale Hammed and Adebayo Ibrahim, both aged 20, and resident at 6, Olubala St., Aga, in Ikorodu, near Lagos, are facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, breach of peace and assault.
According to John Iberedem, the Prosecutor, the duo committed the offence on March 11, 2018, at Aga Community in Ikorodu.
He told the court that the accused beat up Olabijo with a broken bottle and sticks for protecting a woman who was his girlfriend from being molested.
Iberedem said the accused had asked the woman out severally but she refused to heed his love advances.
He said that while the complainant and the woman were passing-by, the accused persons called her and she refused to answer. They were about to drag her when the complainant challenged them.
“While challenging them, they both carried sticks and hit him on his head, and stabbed him with a broken bottle.
“Passers-by handed them over to the police, while the complainant was rushed to the hospital,” he said.
The offence contravened Section 411, 116(d) and 243 of the Lagos State Criminal Code Law, 2015.
F. A. Azeez, the chief magistrate, admitted the accused persons to bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties that must own houses within the magisterial district.
She ordered that the sureties must also produce evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
Azeez adjourned the case until April 26, 2018, for mention.
