KANO, Nigeria – Two private firms, Lamash Property Limited and White Nig Ltd, who were both engaged in Public Private Partnerships, PPP, with the Kano State Government, are demanding compensation after the demolition of properties they had invested in.
The demolitions were executed by Governor Abba Yusuf’s team on Saturday, June 3, 2023.
Lamash Property Limited, a property development company, has demanded N10 billion in compensation for the demolition of the Daula Hotel.
The company claims to have been taken by surprise, stating that the redevelopment project was initiated under the previous administration of Governor Abdullahi Ganduje as a PPP project aimed at creating jobs and generating revenue for the state.

Similarly, White Nig Ltd, which was contracted to develop the Hajj Camp in the state, expressed shock at the actions of the Kano state government.
Hassan Yusuf Baba, the Managing Director of the organisation, declared plans to seek redress in court, describing the demolition as a gross injustice.
Dan Asabe Abubakar, a developer whose building was also demolished on Saturday, echoed these sentiments.
He decried the actions of the state government, arguing that they were contrary to the Land Use Act.
In a detailed statement titled ‘Kano government demolition of Daula hotel, our stand’, Lamash Property Limited announced that it would seek legal action to claim the N10 billion which it had invested in the project and to prevent the Kano government from taking further actions that could adversely affect its activities.
The company expressed concern that the actions of the Abba Yusuf-led government would discourage potential investors and adversely impact job creation, wealth circulation, and the urban development of the state.
