There was pandemonium at Model Comprehensive Girls’ Secondary School, Ugwuachara, Abakaliki. when a fire alarm went off at about 11pm on Monday, February 02, 2015.
The fire alarm caused students to scamper for safety which led to no fewer than 19 students being hospitalised.
It was gathered that the students were about to sleep around 11pm, when a fire alarm was raised. There had been electric sparks from one of the fuses in the hostel.
As students tried to run to safety, many got injured and were later rushed to the hospital.
The principal of the school confirming the incident expressed her thanks to God that no life was lost in the incident.
She expressed confidence that the state government would assist the school towards improving the lot of the students.
