Discovering where stay is always a source of concern for every traveller, whether it is looking for a place to pitch a tent or a luxury suite in a fancy resort. Certain factors come into mind when choosing where to stay during vacation.
If you are not a fan of the regular, we will showcase to you 14 extraordinary hotels you can try on your next vacation.
1. Ice Hotel, Sweden
This hotel is rebuilt every year out of ice and snow between December and April, and was the original ice hotel. Yep.
Furniture including beds and chairs are made out of ice and local artists are invited every year to design the bedrooms. It’s also home to an ice chapel which sees about 140 couples get married every season.
2. Attrap’Rêves, Frances
These cute bubble hotels have sprung up in three locations in France, allowing visitors to feel as though they are sleeping under the stars, with all the comfort of being indoors.
The bubble rooms are located only a short walk from a village, so that you don’t feel too secluded, and also come with a nearby building housing a jacuzzi and star gazing map amongst other things. Dreamy.
3. Palacio de Sal, Bolivia
This translates as a palace of salt, obvs. It’s located on the world’s largest salt flat, near the crest of the Andes at an altitude of nearly 12,000 feet.
The original building was constructed in 1993, although it was replaced by a newer one in 2007 – fully equipped with a rule that you are strictly not allowed to lick the walls. Oh.
4. Magic Mountain, Chile
How amazing is this hotel? It’s served by a rope bridge, has its own waterfall and is in the middle of a nature reserve – anyone else think it looks like it’s come straight out of a Disney film? There are 12 rooms, and prices start at just £125. We’re sold.

5. Iglu Dorf, Switzerland
Iglu Dorf is re-built every season from 3,000 tonnes of snow. Woah. There are different rooms available including the ‘romantic’ igloo and ‘hot ‘igloo, with options including everything from whirlpools to sheepskin sleeping areas. Cosy.
6. Kagga Kamma Nature Reserve, South Africa
A real-life Flintstones themed hotel, the Kagga Namma is a luxury hotel built in the middle of a nature reserve. There are totally outdoor rooms – think comfy beds, walls carved out of stone, oh and no ceiling. Plus activities that include safaris and quad biking.
7. Poseidon Undersea Resort, Fiji
Located on a secret island in Fiji, this hotel is straight out of a Little Mermaid – although with less mermaids. Some of the resort is above ground, and the rest submerged like a giant see-through submarine. Pretty cool, no?

8. Jumbo Stay, Sweden
This hotel based inside a 747-200 jetliner first opened its doors in 2008. The hotel itself acts more like a hostel, accommodating up to 79 people with shared bathroom facilities.
It’s based just outside of Stockholm airport and every room features a flat-screen TV to monitor departure boards.
9. Free Spirit Spheres, Canada
Yes, the name suggests they’re made for hippies, but these ball-shaped treehouses are made just for adults and they’re open all year round. Because of the way they are built, using rope tethers, the spheres move with wind and human movement.
10. Kokopelli Cave Bed and Breakfast, USA
Based 70ft beneath ground level, and accessed from a cliff-face entrance, this hotel says you need a ‘general level of fitness’ to stay. Ooh. It comes equipped with running water, a hot tub and and fully functional kitchen. Plus, prices start from about £120 a room.
11. Hobbit Hotel, New Zealand
Lord Of The Rings fans, listen up. This real-life Hobbit hotel features a themed menu and visits to Middle Earth film locations. Oh Em Gee.
You’ll get to see 20 of the filming spots in just one day: how’s that for dedicated fan? You can also get married there, which would probably be the best themed wedding, ever.
12. The Giraffe Manor, Kenya
Giraffe Manor is part of a group of hotels named The Safari Collection, based in Kenya, and as part of the package, you get pet giraffes (sort of).
These Rothchild giraffes regularly pop their heads inside the building’s windows, and you can feed them. Pretty cool, no?

13. Dog Bark Park Inn, USA
This Idaho hotel is built in the shape of a Beagle, and is apparently a famous landmark in the state. It’s a two-bedroom B&B and everything inside is dog-themed, which is a dream if you like pooches, and a horror story if you don’t. It also features a gallery of chainsaw artists (we don’t get it either).
14. Costa Verde, Costa Rica
This refurbished plane hotel looks as though a jet has crashed in trees – it hasn’t. Instead it’s part of a bigger jungle hotel with 70 rooms that overlooks the sea with stunning views.
The fuselage itself holds two bedrooms and a terrace – we can’t think of a cooler way to witness the views than by sipping wine perched on the edge of a plane.
