A woman couldn’t hold up the disgust she felt after she discovered a dead spider on top of a lettuce in her Burger King meal.
To make matters worse, the workers at the restaurant refused to apologize to the mum of four because they “didn’t grow the lettuce”.
Kelly Szadal, 35, noticed “something black” poking out of her burger bun as she sat down with her husband Matt for a meal at the fast-food giant’s Hanley branch in Stoke-on-Trent.
According to Mirror UK, after lifting off the bap and finding the half-cooked arachnid sitting on top of the meat, Matt went to complain and was astonished when staff said they wouldn’t apologise.
Speaking from her home in Norton, Stoke-on-Trent, Szadal said: “I was eating my burger when I spotted this leg sticking out.
“At first I thought it was a bit of black from the burger and then it fell out onto the lettuce and I realised it was a spider.
“I turned around to Matt and said: ‘There’s a spider in my burger’.
“He didn’t believe me at first, but then I picked it off with an onion and he was shocked.
“He complained and got a refund for us, but they refused to apologise.
“You could tell they just wanted us out of there, they didn’t want us causing a scene.
“I felt disgusted. I don’t like spiders as it is, but to have a half-cooked one in your burger.
“This happened in November, and we’ve been waiting for an apology ever since – that’s all we want – but they still haven’t said sorry.
“They keep blaming different people, but don’t accept it themselves.
“I won’t be bothering going there again – it was pretty horrible.”
On his part, her husband Matt said: “I thought Kelly was joking and I told her not to be daft.
“Then I looked at it and took a photo. When I zoomed in on it I was convinced it was a spider.
“I thought that was out of order so I went to the manager to complain.
“I love Burger King and I love Whopper meals but that’s out of order.
“It would have been nice to get an apology. We were given a refund but the manager told it was not Burger King’s fault because it does not grow its own lettuce.
“I said you might not grow it, but you put it together. It’s ridiculous, what kind of an excuse is that?
“We’ve complained to its head office but not heard anything back since it happened.”
The Branch manager of Burger King, Bronson Hope, confirmed that the couple had been refunded for their order.
He said: “We are aware of the situation which has gone to our head office and our customer complaints team.
“If there is an issue, it will be referred back to our suppliers by our customer complaints team.
“I spoke to the customers and provided them with a full refund for the meal.”
