US tennis star, Serena Williams was named Sports Illustrated Sportsperson of the Year. On Tuesday, December 15, 2015, she was at Pier 60 in New York to receive her award.
The 34-year-old who was sporting a black lacy dress that revealed some of her curves became the third female to win the award since its inception.
In 2015, Williams won three Grand Slam singles titles having won the 2014 U.S Open. Speaking to Reuters before Tuesday’s award ceremony, she had this to say:
“I’ve been doing what I do for over 20 years professionally and that’s a long time to be playing.
“And this is the first time I was ever recognized as Sportsperson of the Year.
“So it really, really meant a lot to me. And being a woman and being only the third to be recognized is pretty awesome.”
