The Northern Governors’ Forum is yet to redeem its N100million pledge to widows of security operatives killed by suspected Ombatse militia on May 7, 2013, at Alakyo village.
Despite repeated appeals by the widows, most of whom have been abandoned by their husbands’ families, the northern states’ governors are yet to fulfil their promise.
Some of the widows who spoke to LEADERSHIP expressed concern at the insensitivity of the governors to their plight, even though they lost their spouses in the line of duty.
Commenting on her current situation, Mrs Linda Obadiah said after the demise of her husband, she stayed back at Akwanga hoping to make ends meet, but she was forced to relocate to Zakan in Kaduna State as her house rent expired and six of her children had to drop out of school.
“I want to thank the government for what they have done for us but my in-laws have been disturbing me over that N100million. I have seven children and don’t know how I am going to feed them or pay their school fees; so I am pleading with the governors to redeem their pledge,” she lamented.
Another widow who hails from Adamawa State and spoke on the condition of anonymity, said her late husband’s people are of the belief that she has collected the money and diverted it for her personal use as a result of which she is now left alone to cater for her five children.
