Suspected Fulani herdsmen has invaded and unleashed attack on the four villages in the Bachit District of Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State which sent 12 people to their graves and razed several houses including that of late Senator Gyang Dantong.
It was also learnt that a security official attached to the Special Task Force, STF died during the attack that occurred at midnight of Thursday, October 04, 2014.
A source, one of the villagers who spoke on the grounds of anonymity disclosed that the four villages were attacked the four villages were attacked concurrently at about 1am which has put most of the residents out of place.
However, Majority Leader and Member representing Riyom Constituency in the Plateau State House of Assembly, Hon. Daniel Dem who confirmed the attack said nine people were killed in a simultaneous attack carried out by Fulani herdsmen who also burnt houses including that of late Sen. Gyang Dantong, Vanguard reports.
He further stated that he had earlier debunked rumours of a looming attack on the villages which went viral the previous week owing to the level of peaceful co-existence experienced by the residents before the attack.
Furthermore, he revealed that the situation has been calmed owing to timely intervention of the Special Task Force officials adding that adequate security plans should be put in place at the affected communities to inhibit further attacks and continue living peacefully.
Meanwhile, Dem urged the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) tohelp the victims with necessary relief materials assist in order to reduce the impact caused by the attack.
Efforts to reach the Spokesman of the Special Task Force, STF Captain Iweha Ikedichi to gain information proved abortive as he could not be reached as at press time.
