Kano – 100 cases of rape were recorded in Kano State courts of law between November and December last year 2013.
This was disclosed by the state Commissioner of Justice, Barrister Maliki Kuliya Umar. Umar reportedly said that more than 40 offenders have so far been convicted and are currently serving jail terms.
The stigma that was associated with rape cases has greatly reduced as victims and their guardians now come forward to report their ordeals to the police, unlike before when the victims remain mute and try to cover up rape incidences.
This no doubt, will lend more power to the fight against perpetrators of the dastardly act.
